My name is Noreen Tobin and I’m a qualified health Qi Gong Instructor. I promote physical, emotional & mental health & wellbeing. The philosophy behind Qi Gong Wellness is to help people take care & take charge of their own health. The focus is on self- care & self- improvement. It is a self-initiated health and wellness practice consisting of a combination of movement, meditation, and breathing.
What is Qi Gong?
Qi Gong is a mindful practice incorporating slow gentle body movement, breathing techniques and self- massage. Its origins lie in traditional Chinese medicine and philosophy.
The benefits of the practice are many and usually felt quickly. Those who are not familiar with Qi Gong are pleasantly surprised by its impact on the body. A typical class would be a long warm-up loosening the main joints of the body and releasing any tightness or tension thereby allowing our blood and energy to flow freely. We also work with the breath to deepen our breathing because as adults we often restrict our breathing and experience low energy as a result. Breathwork sends oxygen to all the cells of the body to feel full vitality. The practice does not solely focus on exercise and physical health. It incorporates mindfulness, breathing regulation and movement, all of which have links to mental well-being.
Who is Qi Gong most suited to?
The beauty of the practice is that it is suitable for people of all ages and agilities. Qigong can be done anywhere, anytime. It can be practiced while sitting, standing, moving, not moving, or lying down.
Because Qi Gong is a fairly low impact activity, it can be a suitable form of exercise for individuals with limited mobility or stamina. It is particularly beneficial for active aging promoting better balance and mobility. It is excellent for people who have sedentary jobs and also for people with health conditions helping the body to repair and heal itself.
Benefits of Qigong practice include optimizing the delivery of oxygen and energy to the body & mind. It helps manage pain and mood, reducing heart rate and blood pressure, improving lung & respiratory health and facilitating relaxation and mental focus.
